Sparring/Kicks/Conditioning Boot Camps

Sparring-Kicks-CampsLed by Grand Master Yu for intermediate to advanced students blue belt and above.

Students will have the chance to activate and develop the muscle memory and agility needed for success in all their martial arts endeavors, especially in sparring situations, both in the ring and outside in self-defense.  You need not participate in our Thursday sparring classes to enjoy and improve in this camp.  If you have sparring gear, please bring it with you, but it is not necessary for students who are expanding their practice into the sparring realm.

Ninja Camp: For Children 5–12

Ninja CampPerfect for children of all skill levels, including children new to Martial Arts. Your Ninja in training will:

  • Receive core martial arts training to promote body awareness, strength and flexibility.
  • Develop large and fine motor skills through martial arts games, obstacle courses, outdoor adventures and “Ninja” training.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of how martial arts movement originated to replicate and promote coexistence with nature and humanity.
  • Delve deeper into the philosophy of martial arts and Asian culture through stories, discussions, cooking classes and daily art projects.
  • Learn from Dojhang instructors and local artists.

 


Master Classes with GrandMaster Yu

martial-arts-oak-park-river-forest-1Master Classes with GrandMaster Yu, offered selectively throughout the year to registered students, blue belt and above, will isolate the artistic and technical essence of the various dimensions of our Martial Arts Practice.

Based on the needs of current students, classes will highlight:

  • Self Defense Techniques and Escape Strategies
  • Traditional Forms
  • Kumdo – Swordsmanship and other specialized artistic weaponry
  • Competitive Sparring

Apart from skills learned in our core martial arts program, GrandMaster Yu takes the emphasis from “learning numbers and promotion requirements” to guiding the students to a deeper understanding of artistic movement and technical precision.


Airborne Kicks – Add Speed, Height, Velocity!

martial arts kicksGrandMaster Yu leads this “boot camp”-style workshop for any student who is ready to launch their kicks beyond their height. You will actually see and feel your technique improve before your eyes (and above your head!) Students receive “Personalized Kick Analysis” (PKA), gaining the confidence and ability to soar through a plateau, or achieve a new goal.

Advanced kicks from GrandMaster Yu’s repertoire include, but are not limited to, Jump Sidekick (single & double), the ever popular, signature Master Yu Double JumpFrontKick and Scissors Kick, Jump Wheelkick, and Spinning Jump Wheelkick.

If you are ready for your muscles to remind you that you’re a true martial artist, this is the camp for you! Our Bu-Saboms and Instructors take this camp year after year, and continue improving: you can too.  Prerequisite: Registered students, Blue Belt or above, or Instructor approval.


Artistic Weaponry: Twin Sticks and Nunchauks Defense Art

twin-sticksFeaturing the Twin Sticks and Nunchauka – Build your confidence! A great foundation in martial arts weaponry – you will experience the simplicity, joy of movement, and all-around practicality of this mentally & physically engaging workshop – you embrace improved focus, confidence, and grip, in using the weaponry to extend the perimeter of your training area. This is a dynamic workshop that gives the serious martial artist an entry into the world of Artistic Weaponry.  GrandMaster Yu guides you using the E Dan (Twin Sticks) and Nunchauka: making self-defense with accessible objects possible, while also learning coordination of blocks and strikes, weapons carriage, and historical background of weaponry training.  As with all of our workshops, GrandMaster Yu will meet each student at their own level: beginner, intermediate, or advanced, and build on the existing skills from previous workshops.  Self-defense techniques, forms, and working with a partner all combine to improve coordination, attention, and well-being – plus it is SUPER FUN!  Challenge yourself!  Prerequisite:  Registered Students, Blue Belt and above.
