GrandMaster S.H. Yu Nominated to the GrandMasters Hall of Fame
To our Martial Arts Family: We are so happy and proud to announce that our beloved Supreme GrandMaster Yu has been nominated to the US Tae Kwon Do GrandMasters Hall of Fame!
We wanted to share this short essay GrandMaster Yu wrote as he accepted his nomination – it is INSPIRATION! Good Luck, Sir! You are THE BEST of the BEST!
“From my childhood until now, for approximately 60 years, I have dedicated
myself solely to the love of Taekwondo: its training, development, and promotion.
Even now, wearing my dobok, I train and instruct for 5-6 hours daily.
Through years of training, I have acquired martial arts philosophy and gained
techniques and wisdom through experience.
To impart the spirit and techniques of authentic Martial Arts Taekwondo to the
next generation of Taekwondo Masters, Instructors and Leaders, is where the
beauty lies in the spirit and techniques of authentic martial arts taekwondo. Even
when suffering bone-crushing pain, I train and instruct tirelessly to show students
and parents the path of a true martial artist and to set an example for the next
generation of leaders. I continuously pursue excellence to inspire others to do the
same.
Countless students enter the dojang at a young age and train diligently until
entering university, and become Masters, Instructors, Parents, and Community
Leaders. Seeing students graduate from good universities and lead happy, stable
lives in society through the discipline, self-cultivation, and self-control learned
through training, along with the effort, hope, and achievement they gained, brings
pride and happiness, especially when receiving messages of gratitude from
students and parents.
Sometimes, when delinquent youth are sponsored and sent from different regions, social service
organizations, villages, cities, or police stations to be re-educated and
transformed into new people, it is truly rewarding and joyful.
Sometimes, students come to the dojang recommended by psychotherapists and
other therapeutic professionals.
The pride I feel as a Taekwondo GrandMaster when demonstrating at city and
village festivals, and the fact that we are the ones who can make Westerners
bow respectfully to the flag of our homeland, South Korea, teaching them
Eastern philosophy and etiquette—who else but us Taekwondo Masters and
Martial Arts Masters can do this?
Being a Taekwondo GrandMaster is something I am proud of and happy to be.”
